Expanded agreement gives Transgene access to scalable production technology.
September 8, 2026
By: Charlie Sternberg
Editor’s Take: The expanded license could help Transgene better prepare for future clinical-scale production by giving it access to a more scalable and consistent viral-vector manufacturing platform.
Transgene and ProBioGen announced today that they have broadened their existing collaboration through an additional license agreement covering ProBioGen’s AGE1.CR.pIX suspension cell line, a move intended to help Transgene expand its manufacturing capabilities for future clinical-scale needs. Transgene is a biotech company developing virus-based immunotherapies for cancer treatment, while ProBioGen is a contract development and manufacturing organization specializing in biologics, vaccines and viral vectors.
The expanded agreement gives Transgene access to a specialized production technology designed to support scalable manufacturing and process consistency. ProBioGen’s AGE1.CR.pIX suspension cell line platform is designed for efficient vaccine production, with the companies pointing to its potential to improve reliability, cost-effectiveness and productivity as development programs advance.
“We are pleased to expand the scope of our activities with ProBioGen,” said Dr. Alessandro Riva, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Transgene. “This additional license reflects our confidence in the technology to prepare for future clinical needs at scale.”
“We value Transgene’s continued confidence in our AGE1.CR.pIX platform,” said Dr. Volker Sandig, Chief Scientific Officer at ProBioGen. “A continuous cell line qualified as a GMP master cell bank, grown in chemically defined and animal-component-free medium, means every batch begins from the same fully characterized starting material. That is the foundation of a process that is reproducible, scalable and straightforward to transfer — and it lets our partners focus on the virus-product rather than the cell substrate.”
